SDI Signs SONGS Nuclear Decommissioning Post-Tensioning Contract

Schwager Davis, Inc. is gearing up to play its part in the 2020 San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station decommissioning project.  SDI’s scope of work includes the detensioning and/or removal of over 500 vertical and horizontal tendons.  Once the the post-tensioning system has been deactivated, demolition crews will raze the the two iconic dome structures.

SONGS began producing energy for California in the late 1960s; at its peak, the plant provided power for about 1.4 million homes. Unfortunately, a steam-generator leak precipitated a shut-down which eventuated into full closure and current decommissioning.
